Nova — Privacy Policy

Nova ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why, and your rights regarding it. By using Nova, you agree to this policy.
1. Who We Are

2. What Data We Collect

3. What We Do NOT Collect
- Video/audio streams — All video and audio flows peer-to-peer via WebRTC. We never see, store, or have access to your video or audio.
- Chat content — There is no text chat. We have no access to what is said or shown in your video calls.
- Location data — We do not request or store GPS or fine-grained location.
- Payment information — We do not process payments.
4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
- Consent: You consent to data processing when you accept the Terms of Service and create an account.
- Legitimate interest: IP logging and audit trails are necessary for abuse prevention, legal compliance, and cooperation with law enforcement.
- Legal obligation: We may be required to retain and disclose data in response to lawful requests from authorities.
5. Data Retention
- Account data (email, name, nickname): Retained until you delete your account.
- Activity logs (IP, actions, timestamps): Retained for 730 days (2 years), then automatically purged.
- Reports: Retained for the duration of the log retention period.
- When you delete your account, personal data is immediately removed. Audit logs are anonymised (user ID removed) and retained for the legal retention period.
6. Your Rights
You have the following rights under GDPR, CCPA, and similar data protection laws:
- Access: Download all your data at any time (lobby → account settings → "Download My Data").
- Deletion: Delete your account and all personal data at any time (lobby → account settings → "Delete Account").
- Rectification: Update your nickname at any time.
- Portability: Your data export is provided in JSON format.
- Objection: You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time.
- Complaint: You can lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Data Sharing
We do NOT sell your data. We may share data only in these cases:
- Law enforcement: In response to valid legal requests (subpoenas, court orders, warrants).
- Child safety: Suspected CSAM or underage user activity will be reported to NCMEC and/or local law enforcement.
- Google: Google processes your OAuth authentication. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Advertisers: Google AdSense may use cookies for ad targeting. See Google Ads Privacy. We do not share your personal data with advertisers.
8. Cookies
- Session cookie: Used to keep you logged in. Essential for the Service to function. Expires when you close your browser or log out.
- AdSense cookies: Third-party cookies used by Google to serve relevant advertisements. You can manage cookie preferences in your browser settings.
- We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or any non-essential first-party cookies.
9. Security
- All connections are encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
- Video streams are encrypted end-to-end via WebRTC DTLS-SRTP.
- Session cookies are HttpOnly and Secure.
- Passwords (if applicable) are hashed with industry-standard algorithms.
- The database uses write-ahead logging (WAL) for data integrity.
10. Children's Privacy
Nova is strictly for users aged 18 and over.
We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a user is under 18, their account will be immediately terminated and their data deleted.
11. International Data Transfers
If you access Nova from outside the country where our servers are located, your data may be transferred internationally. By using Nova, you consent to this transfer. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of Nova after changes constitutes acceptance.
